Apple iPod v MP3 player

Can we use the blog to measure opinion on this issue? Please add a comment to give your reasons for buying the iPod or a more generic MP3 player, and also please comment on your satisfaction or otherwise with the player. Generally it seems iPods are sold on "expensive but the best and easiest to use", but there have been some complaints about them and some MP3 players are even more than iPods.

My point of view: I have a Matsui MP3 player which was about £26. A student asked what I got with it compared to an iPod - answer "a lot of change" . Of course MP3 players can be more expensive with more storage and better quality. The interface is not clever - you flick through all the tracks to find what you want.

I have tried an iPod and the circle selector interface is very clever, but I don't play much music on the move so I don't think it's worthwhile paying lots extra if I don't use it very often.

I am planning to get a gadet to link to my record player so that I can convert all my vinyl favourites and play them in the car.

Both mp3 players and iPods have their pros and cons. mp3s are generally cheaper and they boast a wider variety of sizes and colours but they don't really have an easy was to locate songs. This can be frustrating if you have a large mp3 player. The iPod on the other hand is good value for money although it is a bit expensive. They allow you to play games on them whilst you listen to music and the colour screen is a welcomed bonus. The clickwheel is also a neat little invention. The downside with iPods is that there isnt really that many to choose from and you have a limited choice of colour as well.

If you want something small and you are not going to listen to it much or if you are a bit short of cash, get an mp3 player, however if you listen to lots of music, or have alot of money to spare get an iPod.

MP3 players come in a much larger variety of choice, they come in all kinds of shapes, colours and are priced accoarding to make and memory size. Ipods tend to be expensive where as MP3 players can be brought at very low prices nowdays. MP3 players also tend to be better made as Ipods break fairly easily. Ipods may have extra features such as pictures and a few games but its not worth paying about £100 for something that has these useless features. I personally think that the safer, better and wiser option would be to buy an Mp3 player. They are a lot smaller and you get much more choice.

An Ipod is a good way to keep all your music together. And the amount of add-ons and gadgets that can be used with them is useful.

However in saying that i chose to buy a 20gb mp3 player as it is cheaper to buy and also cheaper to fix. Though it doesnt have the features of video/games that an Ipod has i still prefer it as it is simple and does what need.

I like mp3 players better because i wont have to migrate all my music to Itunes, I use WMP and I'm satisfied with that changing would be uneccesary.

in my opion you dont need an MP3 of an iPod as most computers and Moblies can carry music as well as do other thing.
in the end however if you do go for an Mp3 Or an iPod, it would come down to cash and what else you want it for.

iPods are far superior to mp3 players as they can store ALOT more songs and are ALOT more easier to use and operate. As apple™ have released such a wide range of products it means that the prices of the iPods are relatively low, meaning you get awesome value for money. They also look ALOT fitter than any old mp3 player.

Lets Face it Ipods compatibility with just about everything else electrical is certainly part of its popularity.

The expense of Ipods is down to the fact that apple can charge them at that much because people will buy them either way.

There is also the aspect that the Ipod is a fashion accesory and the Ipods ergonomics and useabiltity, vast space for music, hi-def colour screen and intense ad campaigns, make it all the more appealling to the average joe.

On the other hand its only good if you have the amount of music to listen to it and/or whether or not it will be worth the money.

And finally to mooseulator who obviously doesnt realise that you can use Winamp instead of Itunes.

I prefer my iPod Nano to most other MP3 players because it is small, lightweight and can hold nearly all my music. Also, it is nice to use with an easy-to-read display and good menus (better than other MP3 players I have used).

As well as the iPod, I like using iTunes to play music on my computer.

i prefer MP3 players, for they have a far greater range of styles (including colour and shapes), eventhough IPOD have introduced many more colour variations the IPOD shape remains pretty much the same.
Also the larger capacity IPODs can be very bulky and often very expensive compared to a simular MP3.

like annubis (matt) said both had good and bad points, but i dont see the point in paying that much money for a tarted up mp3 player with new software, so what if it can holdmore songs, you can't listen to them all at once anyway.

besides i couldn't really be bothered what people buy to be honest, it's stupid as everyone compares each other these days my opinion of the Ipod is that it's a good piece of technology, but i'd out of choice have an mp3 as there is a bigger selection of them at a fraction of the price.

iPods and MP3 Players are both great ways of storing and playing music.
Although if you are looking for something with more features such as video and photo storage and games and you are willing to pay more money for these qualities then its worth paying extra for the iPod.
But if you aren't willing to pay the additonal cash and you don't find the additional features of the iPod appealing, then MP3 players are cheap and cheerful and come in many different shapes and sizes and colours so you are bound to find something to suit you.
If you are the type of person that owns a large collection of music and is constantly listening to it, then an iPod is just the thing for you as certain models can hold up to 40,000 songs. MP3 players are more for people that aren't particulary interested in music and only listen to it in their spare time as they rarely have as much storage.

An Ipod is a much better way to keep all your music together as you can get much larger size ipod to other MP3s such as a 80Gb, and ipod has very good OS on the device that make it very easy to use.
but MP3 players come in a much larger variety of choice, and are priced accoarding to make and memory. Ipods tends to be more expensive whereas to a MP3
